JUNE 24-28, 2020

It was 2010, and I was sitting at my desk at work, overwhelmed, totally swamped at work. I had just hung up the phone from talking to a colleague who would call me all the time and repeatedly ask me the same question every time he needed to perform a process with another entity within the corporation—the process was always the same. You’d think by now he would have written it down. Tired from having been up all night and still sitting at my desk, not having taken a lunch that day, I decided to clock out. Not physically, but mentally. I decided it was time to do me.

I opened a blank word doc and began to fill the page with a scene that I had played over and over in my head. As an avid reader, I would get story ideas in my head all the time. But this time, instead of picking up one of my favorite romance author’s books, I just started to let my own make-believe characters tell me their story. By the time my day finally ended, I had drafted twelve charters of a story that I just couldn’t stop writing. On this day, the phone rang, didn’t get answered, and no documents got pushed off my desk. Now I know it wasn’t right, but being near to retirement, I figured I’d earned it.

Have you ever wanted to write a book? Are you reading lots of romance books while imagining different ways the story could have been done? Have you ever been just like me, where stories are in your head just wanting to get out? Can you picture your name as the author of a bestselling book? Then the aspiring author workshop might be for you.

Why should you attend the Aspiring Author Workshop?

Wanting and being an author are two different things. A lot of people want to be an author. Still, with the everyday grind of dinner, kids, husbands, and work becoming a published author takes dedication, commitment, and can be an uphill battle. Especially, when you trying to do it all by yourself. Luckily for you, we’ve got mentorships, workshops, and seasoned authors to show you the way.

During the RSJ Virtual Romance Book Con, you’ll have the opportunity to learn how to write a book from Emma Award-Winning Author Miriam Pace. Miriam writes as J.M. Jeffries with her writing partner Jacqueline Hamilton.

Miriam will be teaching the Aspiring Author Workshop.
This workshop will introduce the aspiring authors to the various categories (tools) that support the foundation of writing a book. Attendees will find it helpful as they create their stories, build their plots, and move forward to becoming an author. This workshop will be a two-day, two-hour workshop with some hands-on exercises to help you be closer to your dream of becoming a published author.
