After two years of consumer research, Harlequin has officially reaffirmed that “reading Harlequin romance books makes women feel uplifted, inspired, and empowered.” With Harlequin selling on average, two romance books per second, their consumer research has resulted in a rebirth of their Harlequin series book covers through a new campaign called “That Harlequin Feeling!”
With Harlequins overhaul on branding, they’re distinctively setting out to make sure that the characteristics of each of the 12 lines in the Harlequin Series are recognizable and published on a regular monthly basis. Feeling down, kids have you ragged, or is your mother-in-law in town; Harlequin’s got the romance book to make it all better.
What does this mean for romance book readers? You’ll have your pick of nearly 66 newly published romance books each month. And if you’re a reader attending the RSJ Book Lovers’ Convention, you’ll get not only free books from Harlequin but also a personal introduction to each newly rebranded recognizable line.
What’s this mean for romance book authors? It means that Harlequin is looking for you more than ever before. And if you’re an author of color, writing love stories, they’re most definitely looking for you. In a time when people are woke more than ever and understanding how essential representation of diversity is, Harlequin is continuing and ramping up their efforts to make sure their lines represent the North America of today.

ARE YOU COMING TO THE 2020 ROMANCE BOOK CONFERENCE?
Loaded with tons of fun, Authors can pitch with Harlequin Books and Entangled Publishing, Readers can get free books, and everyone participates and enjoys the “Booklover” Obstacle Course.

Why are there no African American books listed/offered with the FREE Romance ebooks? Will there be any available at the Convention?
In the past, Harlequin has supplied books by authors of color to the RSJ conference. With their vast array of published lines, there will probably be a little of both books by authors of color and stories with an array of multicultural characters.
In this particular “That Harlequin Feeling” campaign, you’ll see that author Rochelle Alers, an author of color’s book cover, is featured in the campaign. If you’re looking specifically for a free book from the “That Harlequin Feeling” campaign that represents African-American books, you can select the “Want to try it before you buy? Download a free eBook” link. You can currently download: “BLACK TIE BILLIONAIRE” by author Naima Simone and “UNITED BY THEIR ROYAL BABY” by author Therese Beharrie for free.
We know that finding a story of color can sometimes feel like looking for a needle in a haystack. As such, the RSJ Conference will continue the goal to highlight stories of color and will always open up opportunities for an array of multicultural authors to gain exposure.
Harlequin is currently a 2020 Sponsor of the RSJ Book Lovers’ Convention, and they’ll be scouting out authors at the conference. As they’re on the hunt for more authors and stories of color, I’d encourage you to subscribe to their newsletter for more. It looks like they’ll be more Harlequin Books with more multicultural characters along the way.
I hope this helps. Thank you so much for your comment. I think it will be helpful for others as well.
